St. Mary’s, Cobh Wanderers, St. Mochta’s and Finglas United are all through to the final four of the FAI Intermediate Cup following this weekend’s quarter finals.

The next stage of the competition is evenly balanced with two representatives each from the Munster Senior League and Leinster Senior League, with those games pencilled in for September.

St. Mary’s will host St. Mochta’s in the semi-finals in Kilcully and Cobh Wanderers will welcome Finglas United to Old Church Park.

The Saints got this far in the competition by defeating defending champions College Corinthians 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Castletreasure.

The home side went into the game after recent bouts with Mayfield United in the Keane Cup and Drogheda United in the FAI Cup proper, and they took the lead through Keelan Crowley in the 11th minute.

Dylan O’Doherty equalised and went on to score a hat-trick for St. Mary’s in a game that also saw Bradley Walsh and Sean Lennon hit the back of the net.

They will face St. Mochta’s in the semi-final, following their victory over Home Farm in a tense Dublin derby at Porterstown Road.

Bohemians academy graduate Chris Lotefa got the winner, in a game that opened with Owen Benson scoring and Jordan Buckley equalising for the eventual winners in the 15th minute.

Cobh Wanderers played Malahide United in the quarter finals, the Leinster Senior League side that announced their national cup ambitions by knocking out Ringmahon Rangers in the previous round.

Wanderers, under player-manager Jason Abbott, were forced to dig deep to get the win on home soil. It was 0-0 at the break and the tie was decided by a solitary effort from Ciaran Grffin at the start of the second half.

Cobh Wanderers will be home to Finglas United in the semi-finals, a team that hammered Mayfield United 5-0 at Larney Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Munster Senior League side trailed 3-0 at half-time through an Aaron Costello brace and a strike from Jamie Wilson. Finglas polished the win with a Dean Ivory penalty and a goal from Ciaran O’Reilly.

The quarter finals of the FAI Junior Cup were also held this weekend, and the result of the round was Coachford AFC defeating Cockhill Celtic at the Charlie O’Donnell Sports Grounds in Buncrana.

Their goal is to become the first Cork AUL side to lift the trophy since Rockville in 1945, and the club will face Trim Celtic in the next round after their victory over Portmarnock.

Another shock saw perennial FAI Junior Cup challengers Pike Rovers go down to Evergreen FC of Kilkenny in Limerick.

Their reward is a trip to face Castlebar Celtic after the Mayo side got the better of Gorey Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
