Mourinho frustrated as Real held by CSKA

Jose Mourinho was unhappy his side failed to take full control of their Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow as they conceded an injury-time goal to hand the Russians a lifeline.

Mourinho frustrated as Real held by CSKA

“We had the chances to score a second goal,” said Mourinho after the game. “I’m frustrated but it is not a bad result. I am not happy but I am not too sad either. It happened to us last year in Lyon and we got through to the quarter-finals then.”

Pontus Wernbloom made Real pay for a string of misses as CSKA pinched an improbable draw when they looked certain to head to the Bernabeu behind in their last-16 tie. Wernbloom scored in the third minute of stoppage time at the end of the match, canceling out Cristiano Ronaldo’s first-half strike.

There was a certain symmetry in how the equalising goal went in, as twins Vasili and Aleksei Berezutski were both involved in the build-up, having both been at fault for the opening goal, driven in by Ronaldo under goalkeeper Sergei Chepchugov after 28 minutes.

Alan Dzagoev provided a cross from the right, Vasili Berezutski headed the ball towards the back post and his brother nodded across goal for Swedish midfielder Wernbloom to lunge in and score.
