Draw enough for Ghanato advance

Ghana made certain of their progress into the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations where they will face Tunisia as they held Guinea to a 1-1 draw, a result that also sent Mali through as Group D runners-up.

Draw enough for Ghanato advance

Guinea, needing a victory to have any chance of progression, started in determined fashion and wanted a penalty in the 11th minute when Adam Larsen came to take the ball at the feet of Ibrahima Traore, but the referee said the goalkeeper took the ball cleanly while replays suggested otherwise.

They had the ball in the net in the 25th minute when Traore fired home from a through ball from Pascal Feindouno, but he was correctly called offside. Moments later Ghana, second best to this point, took the lead with a superb goal from Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, who flicked the ball up before lashing home from outside the area.

Abdoul Camara hauled Guinea level on the stroke of half time but they could not find the goal they needed in the second half - a task made all the more difficult when Mamadou Bah picked up his second yellow card 20 minutes from time.

Mali now face a quarter-final against Gabon after coming from behind to beat Botswana. The minnows took a shock lead shortly after half time through Mogakolodi Ngele but Garra Dembele equalised and Seydou Keita curled home a sumptuous winner.
