I fear for Luis’s safety, says Suarez’s mother

LUIS Suarez’s mother fears her son will be targeted by black opponents wanting to take revenge.

“English people who are saying that Luis is racist make me laugh,” said Suarez’s mother, Sandra Diaz. “Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s a shame because it had been a perfect year for Luis. I know my son. I know he has to calm down a bit with things like the salute he made to rival fans.

“I am now afraid because I don’t know what could happen when Luis faces a black rival again. I think the black players will insult him and try to drive him crazy.

“He will carry this stain on his character during his entire life. But I think this will make him a stronger person.

“I think the punishment was not because of the insult. Liverpool were on the up and Luis was playing really well. He became very popular in England. So they went after him.”
