Gers not feeling any pressure, insists Davis

STEVEN DAVIS insists Rangers will not be casting any nervous glances in Celtic’s direction after their rivals closed the gap on the SPL leaders to 10 points.

The Scottish champions were held to a 0-0 draw by St Johnstone at Ibrox on Saturday after the Hoops claimed victory at Inverness earlier in the day.

Celtic are now in action twice — in their game in hand against Dunfermline midweek and Saturday’s meeting with St Mirren — before Rangers travel to Kilmarnock on Sunday.

That means what was a 12-point lead at the summit could be slashed to just four points before the trip to Ayrshire, but stand-in skipper Davis claims they are not worried.

He said: “I think there is going to be plenty of to-ing and fro-ing between now and the end of the season.

“As players, we are not concentrating on that. We just want to keep the consistency going and keep winning games.

“We are not too concerned really about where Celtic are at this moment.

“There is so much football still to be played. We’re not even thinking about our lead, it’s just about keeping winning our own games.

“That’s what we’ve always tried to do since I’ve been at the club.”

What is of more concern to Rangers was a lacklustre performance against Saints at Ibrox, where the home side never looked like taking control of the match.

Davis said: “It just wasn’t good enough, to be fair. We all realise that.

“In terms of possession, we didn’t do that well enough and if you keep giving the opposition the ball it’s going to make things 10 times more difficult. We didn’t create anything.

“There were a number of factors and credit has to go to St Johnstone as well because they played a good game. We can only look at ourselves and the fact that we didn’t produce the goods. I think there was a little bit of spark missing.”
