Monaghan appeal nets points

MONAGHAN UNITED have leapfrogged Cork City into second place in the Airtricity First Division, as a result of an FAI Appeals hearing.

Monaghan appeal nets points

The association’s Appeals Committee last night upheld an earlier decision which found that Finn Harps had fielded an ineligible player in their scoreless draw with Monaghan on September 3.

That game has now been retrospectively designated a 3-0 win for Monaghan who, as a consequence, go a point clear of Cork — and with a game in hand — into the second automatic promotion place in the First Division behind leaders Shelbourne. Finn Harps have also been fined €2,500.
