Sligo bid to get back on track

UCD and Sligo Rovers have points to prove as well as chasing victory when they meet in the Airtricity League Premier Division at the UCD Bowl this evening.

Both sides come into the game on the back of defeats, Sligo having been knocked off the top of the table when losing 2-1 at home to Bohemians while UCD’s last outing saw them on the receiving end of a 6-0 trouncing by Shamrock Rovers.

This evening, the Students have doubts over the availability of Robbie Creevy (back) and Ciaran Nangle (shins). Sligo welcome back Danny Ventre from suspension but John Russell is banned.

In the First Division, meanwhile, Athlone Town host Finn Harps at Lisseywoolen (7.30) with both sides also looking to rebound from defeats last time out.

Tomorrow, the Premier Division title race is centre-stage again with Shamrock Rovers odds-on to inflict more punishment on Galway United at Terryland Park (6.30).

Adding to Galway’s woes is that former Liverpool and Celtic youngster Laurence Gaughan is banned following a red card on his debut against Bray Wanderers.

Meanwhile, in other domestic news, the kick-off time for the Airtricity League FirstDivision fixture between Cork City and Limerick on Saturday, September 3 has been changed to 5pm.
