Real signing aims for golden booties award
The Spanish giants have signed a seven-year-old football prospect from Argentina, who also happens to go by the name Leo.
Leonel Angel Coira will begin training on September 6, Madrid’s spokesman Juan Tapiador confirmed.
Last week, Coira told Argentinian sports daily Ole that his idol was Lionel Messi, the Barcelona forward who is also Argentinian and goes by the name Leo. Coira said he prefers “to provide the pass’’ rather than score.
Coira’s father Miguel, who is the coach of a small team in the Madrid suburbs, told Spanish newspaper ABC that Leonel had signed a one-year contract that can be renewed but will receive no salary. From the age of 16 he can play in the first team.
He said his son decided on Real after also receiving an offer from cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid.
