Abusive messages force Gibson to quit Twitter

MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Darron Gibson deleted his Twitter account less than two hours after joining the social network site yesterday after receiving a volley of abusive messages.

Republic of Ireland international Gibson, 23, set up the account @dgibbo28 shortly after midday but was immediately inundated by negative messages regarding his efforts for club and country.

Just over two hours later Gibson deleted the account.

Some of the messages posted on his Twitter page included: “Nothing would make me happier than if we sold you this summer, you’re probably a nice bloke, but an awful footballer.”

Another read: “@dgibbo28 You are a (sic) abysmal excuse for a footballer. You’re a one trick pony – a s*** one at that. What Fergie sees in you I do not know...”

Another read: “@dgibbo28 hasn’t tweeted yet. Seems fitting after the countless anonymous performances we’ve seen from the ‘footballer’.”

After the page was deleted some Twitter users tried to begin a campaign to get Gibson to return, attempting to get a £getgibboback hashtag to trend.
