A first-half that lacked the cutting edge came to life on 39 minutes when a foul on Conor Sinnott on the edge of the penalty area saw Paul Murphy’s resulting free kick take a deflection off the wall before flying past Mark McNulty.

Greg O’Halloran had the sides level in the first minute of first-half injury time. Gearoid Morrissey’s cross from the right was laid off by Graham Cummins into the path of O’Halloran, who gave Kevin Burns little chance with a super left-footed strike from the edge of the area.
