Greene honoured by ASJI on 90th birthday

And to mark the occasion, the Association of Sports Journalists in Ireland (ASJI) presented the long-time voice of Irish football with a specially commissioned medal with the inscription ‘A Lifetime Award For Services to Sports Broadcasting’.

The Dubliner became synonymous with football on RTÉ from the late 1940s until his retirement in 1985, originally on radio but later through the medium of television. Greene succeeded another giant of Irish broadcasting, the late Eamonn Andrews, at RTÉ in 1948 when the station was known as Radio Éireann.
