Robben a doubt for Bayern

BAYERN MUNICH have been dealt a double blow ahead of the visit of Manchester United in the Champions League tomorrow as they slumped to a second successive 2-1 defeat in the Bundesliga to Stuttgart.

Coach Louis van Gaal’s decision to leave Arjen Robben, below left, on the bench for the game backfired after the Dutch man picked up a calf injury in the second period, raising doubts about his fitness for Old Trafford.

“It is too early to say whether Robben will make it,” said van Gaal. “The doctors need to take a good look at his calf to see what’s wrong.”

Franck Ribery, below right, was also only on the bench but both the French man and Robben were introduced after Stuttgart’s Christian Träsch cancelled out Ivica Olic’s opener for Bayern. It was Stuttgart who made the better start with Marica heading them in front in the 50th minute.
