Healy off the mark as Ipswich grab deserved point

DAVID HEALY came off the bench to score his first goal for Ipswich last night, securing another precious point in a 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe as they continue their bid to avoid relegation from the Championship.

Healy off the mark as Ipswich grab deserved point

Striker Healy, signed on loan from Sunderland last month, used his predatory instincts to slot home an equaliser 16 minutes from time and deny fellow strugglers Scunthorpe an undeserved victory at Glanford Park.

Six minutes earlier Iron skipper Cliff Byrne had put the home side in front with a close-range header on his 200th start for the club.

Elsewhere, Leicester produced a clinical display to edge past Doncaster 1-0 and get their play-off bid back on track.

Martyn Waghorn’s seventh goal of the season was enough to see Nigel Pearson’s men seal the points and register a first win in three at a snowy Keepmoat Stadium.

The on-loan Sunderland man broke clear to fire past Neil Sullivan after early Foxes domination.

Meanwhile, in League One, former Cork City midfielder Joe Gamble was on the scoresheet as Hartlepool climbed out of trouble with a 4-1 thrashing of Carlisle.

Ritchie Jones set them on their way with a wonderful goal in the sixth minute, running half the length of the field before cutting inside and curling a shot into the net.

Scott Dobie quickly equalised for Carlisle, but they had no response to further strikes from Antony Sweeney, Gamble and Jones again.

Oli Johnson grabbed a winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time as Norwich maintained their three-point cushion at the top of the table with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over struggling Southend.

Leeds remain three points behind after Luciano Becchio scored twice in seven second-half minutes to beat Oldham at Elland Road.
