Wembley wait goes on for Keane

ROY KEANE hasn’t stepped foot on the hallowed turf of Wembley since the FA Cup Final of 1999 and he will have to watch this year’s competition unfold from the comfort of his living room after Ipswich were turned over by League One side Southampton in the fourth round.

In fairness the Ipswich manager was under no illusions that his Championship team, despite being on a decent run of form of one defeat in 15 games, were contenders for the crown – in fact they probably had even less chance of lifting the famous trophy than Alan Shearer & Co when Newcastle lined up against Keano beneath the Twin Towers all those years ago.

Keane has not given up on hopes of making the play-offs but his team, burdened by a miserable start to the season in which they failed to win in 14 games, are only five places off the bottom of the Championship with a match tomorrow against promotion-chasing West Brom.
