Brown gets his man as McShane signs four-year deal with Hull
The Republic of Ireland defender has signed a four-year deal at the KC Stadium, having spent time on loan with Phil Brown’s side last season.
McShane, who joined the Black Cats in 2007, has yet to feature for Steve Bruce’s Sunderland this season.
The versatile defender made 19 appearances during the first half of the last campaign for the Tigers and boss Phil Brown was keen on a permanent deal back in January.
Brown has now managed to snare the 23-year-old, who joined Sunderland from West Bromwich Albion two years ago.
It had been reported earlier this week that Brown had lined up another move for McShane, with the fee understood to be in the region of ÂŁ2million.
The former Manchester United defender will now look to prove his fitness to Brown after undergoing a knee operation in July.
Meanwhile, Brown admits he faces a battle to hold onto central defender Michael Turner, who is wanted by Sunderland.
He said: “Whether Michael Turner is a Hull player at the end of the international break remains to be seen. We have turned down bids in the last six weeks.
“As far as we are concerned, it is not just Sunderland. There are two or three clubs interested in Michael.
“Sometimes when people talk silly money you have to listen and we are in the year of the silly money, the silly bids.”
On Saturday at Wolves, Hull goalkeeper Boaz Myhill was disappointed his side were caught cold by Richard Stearman’s equaliser 44 seconds into the second period which cancelled out Geovanni’s opener.
He said: “A draw was probably a fair result. We had the best of the first half and they had the better of it in the second half. Any point away from home in this league is a good point.
“We are disappointed with the goal we conceded. The message going out after half-time in any dressing room at any level of football is make sure you keep it tight for 10 minutes and take it from there.”
