Anelka keen to commit to Blues
Anelka also made it clear he was happy with coach Carlo Ancelotti’s rotation policy after helping Chelsea to a 2-0 victory over west London neighbours Fulham on Sunday.
Anelka returned to the starting line-up against the Cottagers after being relegated to the bench for Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Anelka and strike partner Didier Drogba both made goals for each other as the Blues achieved three wins out of three under their new Italian coach.
But despite their success against Fulham, Anelka will not be stamping his feet should Ancelotti decide to leave him out against Burnley next Saturday and the striker is so settled, he is already looking to sign a new contract.
When asked it he was surprised to be on the bench against Sunderland after helping Chelsea win their opening fixture 2-1 against Hull, Anelka replied: “No, the manager said sometimes he will rest some people.
“The most important thing is to win with Chelsea. Of course everyone wants to play every game, but the manager said in some games he will change the players and get some people to rest and we have to accept it.”
Anelka is also hoping to put pen to paper on a new contract extension with the Blues.
“I’m really glad to play and score goals for Chelsea and I hope I will be here for many more seasons,” said Anelka. “I was saying I wanted to be at a big club and I am at a big club, Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world so I’m very happy.’’
Meanwhile Alex Ferguson has claimed he was never worried about Manchester United’s progress in the wake of last week’s shock defeat at Burnley.
United responded in the perfect manner, blitzing Wigan with a five-goal second-half performance that shot them up the Premier League table, behind early pace-setters Spurs.
It puts them in good heart for a key confrontation with Arsenal on Saturday, and with Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen both among the goalscorers, most of the pressure that had been building up outside Old Trafford has now been relieved.
“We can’t worry about these things,” said Ferguson. “We are not going to kill ourselves because of it, but we’re going to take reminders of it, lessons and experience.
“We all know we’ve got players with great experience at our club who are used to winning trophies. We still weren’t prepared for the kind of setback we got on Wednesday. It shouldn’t have happened, but it did.”
