Rummenigge dismisses McGeady link

BAYERN Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has rubbished reports linking the German giants with a summer move for Celtic’s Republic of Ireland winger Aiden McGeady.

Rummenigge dismisses McGeady link

Rumours of a possible move for McGeady surfaced earlier this week after Ireland boss and former Bayern coach Giovanni Trapattoni claimed the German club had sounded him out about the winger.

“I met my old Bayern assistant in Germany recently and he asked me what I think about McGeady because they are following him,” Trapattoni said.

“They wanted my opinion and I said McGeady is one of our most important players.

“With more confidence, he has the possibility to improve further.”

However a somewhat bemused Rummenigge has moved quickly to dismiss the speculation, insisting he knows nothing of any interest in the €9million-rated 22-year-old.

“I do not know about the ‘fact’ that we are interested in McGeady. And normally I should know something,’’ Rummenigge said.

McGeady, who has in the past admitted he would like to ply his trade abroad at some point in his career, has had a mixed season and was rumoured to be on his way out of Parkhead in December when he was fined and suspended, by Celtic for a breach of club discipline.

However he signed a new five-year contract with the Scottish champions in January.

However the player is believed to have a strained relationship with manager Gordon Strachan.

Tottenham have also been persistently linked with a move for McGeady but earlier this week Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, while describing the winger as a ‘real talent’, insisted the north London club had not bid for him in January and would not be making an offer at the end of the season.
