Gunners and Togo set for Adebayor row
Adebayor has been slowly nursed back to fitness by Arsene Wenger after the big striker suffered a hamstring injury at Tottenham on February 8.
Arsenal are yet to throw him back into action, but that will not stop Togo doing so in the weekend’s World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.
“Adebayor hasn’t joined up with us in Lome for nothing,’’ a Togo official said.
“He will play in the match against Cameroon. He will play in his role as captain as he always has, as this is a huge match for Togo.’’
Meanwhile the FA have given Hull extra time to compile their evidence in the Cesc Fabregas spitting storm.
The Arsenal captain is alleged to have spat at the feet of Tigers assistant boss Brian Horton in the tunnel after last week’s tempestuous FA Cup replay at the Emirates.
Fabregas, who was not playing in the game, denies the accusation from Hull manager Phil Brown, who claims he witnessed the incident.
The row rumbled on in the days following the match and the FA subsequently requested that Hull offer their official version of events within seven days of the incident.
That date, Tuesday March 25, has now passed, but the FA have granted the club some added time to make their case.
“We have now received a request from Hull for an extension of time to provide their observations,” an FA spokesman confirmed yesterday.
“We have considered the request and allowed an extension of time to provide for their observations.”
Hull chairman Paul Duffen remains adamant that the club is fully justified in pursuing their case.
“We applied to extend the deadline because many of the people who witnessed the incident are presently away from the club,’’ he said.
“It is not something we are going to drop because we still stand by exactly what we said on the night.
“The only way we may consider our stance would be if Arsenal were to come out and say something that would deflate the situation.
“When this matter has run its course everybody will find out that what Phil Brown has said is the truth.’’
Arsenal star Gael Clichy says he is ‘delighted’ to be admired by Milan amid reports of a summer bid from the Italian giants.
Clichy, who is under contract until 2012, has labelled Milan a ‘mega club’ and declared he is ‘delighted’ to see his name associated with the San Siro outfit.
“I am not aware of it,” Clichy said when asked about Milan’s interest in his services.
“I am very happy at Arsenal. But the truth is that Milan are a mega club.
“You are (always) delighted to know that such a team are following you.”
