ARSENAL are poised to swoop for Russian playmaker Andrei Arshavin after his club Zenit St Petersburg admitted they have begun talks regarding a transfer.

Reports in Russia claim the Gunners have tabled an official bid for the player, who can operate in midfield or in attack.

The star of Euro 2008 could cost in the region of £20 million (€22m), although the Gunners value the 27-year-old lower. Arshavin’s form has dipped this season as constant transfer speculation appeared to unsettle the player.
