MacAnthony’s Posh confident of beating Baggies in replay

PETERBOROUGH United were unlucky to come away with just a draw in the third round FA Cup tie at West Brom.

The players are confident they can beat the Baggies in the replay at London Road on Tuesday week and owner Dubliner Darragh MacAnthony will deserve a large portion of the credit.

The 32-year-old overseas property tycoon prefers Florida at this time of the year but was grinning from ear to ear in the frost and smoke of the Black Country and Posh’s players put the teams revival down to the Dubliner’s cash. “Credit to the chairman, he’s put a lot of money into this club,” said defender Craig Morgan.

“It must not be nice seeing a loss coming out of your bank account every month but he has stuck with that. We just want him to stay.”

Goalkeeper Joe Lewis who was called up by England for the game against USA and the trip to Trinidad echoed Morgan’s comments.

“He comes down to the ground. He travels to the away games and is very passionate about the squad. He’s spent a lot of his own money on the team and I hope it pays off for him.”

West Brom now face a trip to Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough on Tuesday week — and they won’t be looking forward to the reception at London Road.

“It is going to be a hostile atmosphere back at our place,” said goalkeeper Lewis.

“This year we are in the habit of winning games. We were underdogs no doubt about it but you see games like these when teams like us are under no pressure and we can give anyone a game.”
