CRISTIANO RONALDO has claimed that winning the prestigious Ballon D’Or trophy this week has cemented his place among the legends of the game.

Ronaldo: I am now a footballer apart

The Portuguese winger, who became the first Manchester United player since George Best to win the trophy, also revealed how close he came to joining Arsenal, and paid tribute to his deceased father.

“I am now a footballer apart,” said the 23-year-old. “I’ve now made a place in history and that’s not something everyone can do. I’ve watched the DVDs on the history of the Ballon D’Or and there are only legendary players who have won it. And now I’m part of that history at only 23 years of age.”
