Reina: Torres will be even better next season
Torres has taken English football by storm scoring 23 league goals following his £21m (€26.7m) club record move from Atletico Madrid.
But Reina is convinced his compatriot’s first year in England has been a learning process that will reap greater rewards next term.
‘‘You have to remember that this is Fernando’s first season in England so he will improve and get even better,’’ Reina said.
‘‘He always wants to learn and he will improve because he’s hungry. As a player you are always learning and always looking to get better and believe me, that will be Fernando’s goal next season.
‘‘English football is different but he has adapted really well — better than anyone could have expected. You only need to look at the number of goals he has scored.’’
Meanwhile Liverpool’s new stadium was approved yesterday – for the third time in five years.
The Reds have twice won permission from the city council but been forced to reapply after changes were deemed necessary to their new home.
Despite permission being granted, it is still unclear when work will begin on the Reds’ ground. The club’s American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett ordered a wholescale redesign of the original proposal when they took over last year and their plan was approved last summer.
But it was redrawn a second time by Dallas-based architects HKS earlier this year when the tycoons decided it was too expensive.
The new scheme includes a number of changes, notably a smaller car park beneath the stadium and a reduced height.
The planning committee also met to discuss proposals for a new Everton ground in Kirkby, Merseyside.
But the item was withdrawn from the agenda after hearing the plans had been “changed significantly”, said a Liverpool Council spokesman.
It is thought the next hearing will be at the end of the month.
