Benitez unfazed as ‘slave’ Dudek warns he’ll quit

LIVERPOOL boss Rafael Benitez is unconcerned by comments from Jerzy Dudek that the goalkeeper could leave when his contract ends in the summer.

Dudek, 34, said yesterday he planned to quit Liverpool as he is fed up being treated like “a slave”.

But Benitez said: “Maybe he will leave but he is perfectly prepared mentally to be in the squad at Chelsea.”

The 2005 Champions League hero has played only a handful of games since rival goalkeeper Jose Reina arrived at Anfield two summers ago and is out of contract at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old Pole admitted: “I have to tell Rafa I’m leaving because maybe he’s not aware of it. When a player knows he is a slave, he’ll never give his employer his heart.”

Dudek warned other keepers off signing for Liverpool, saying Benitez will treat them in exactly the same way.
