ARSENAL’S problems deepened yesterday as Arsene Wenger looked to guide the club through the most testing period of his 10-year reign without talisman captain Thierry Henry who is out for the rest of the season with damaged groin and stomach muscles.

Wenger admitted his gamble on the fitness of the brilliant French forward could backfire badly – and so it proved as Henry limped off at the end of the Champions League tie against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night with the Gunners’ European dreams fading into the night along with him.

Henry, 29, had simply not been the same player this season, showing only flashes of his genius as the over-exertion of the last campaign which ended at the World Cup final returned to haunt him.
