FORMER Shelbourne chairman Finbarr Flood is set to run the club on a caretaker basis following the serious illness suffered by chief executive Ollie Byrne.

Byrne, 62, was due to undergo surgery yesterday to remove a brain tumour after taking ill on Tuesday.

The Management Committee of Shelbourne confirmed yesterday that they have invited Finbarr Flood to take up the post of club chairman during Ollie Byrne’s absence, stating that he will run the club “on a caretaker basis”.
