I’M indebted to a colleague for drawing my attention to a Reuters story which reported that former Ajax coach Danny Blind has apologised for causing an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Blind, who lost his job with the Dutch club in May, said in a statement that he had driven into a stationary car injuring a woman who was now recovering in hospital.

“The fact that I was behind the wheel after drinking is unforgivable,” he acknowledged.
