Murphy thanks Waterford for getting him over blues

SUNDERLAND striker Daryl Murphy has thanked former club Waterford United for rescuing his career.

The Republic of Ireland U21international scored a stunning equaliser against another of his previous employers, Luton Town, as Roy Keane’s Black Cats came from behind to secure a vital 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light.

Homesickness ruined Murphy’s first English soccer sojourn six years ago, and he eventually turned his back on a trainee contract with Luton.
