IT’S hoped that the new Standard Player Contract unveiled by the FAI and PFAI this week will bring much needed transparency to what FAI boss John Delaney admits was often “a murky area”.

PFAI Chief Executive Fran Gavin confirmed as much when he revealed that, in one dispute between a player and a club, it emerged that there were no less than four contracts in existence.

Often, he said, additional clauses would end up scrawled on the side and across the top of the page or overflowing onto sheets of club letter-headed paper.
