Where do we go from here?

Can Ireland recover form against the Czech Republic on Wednesday and if not should Steve Staunton remain as manager?

Where do we go from here?

Pat Devlin, former manager Bray Wanderers: “In soccer you can always turn things around and I hope Ireland can do that on Wednesday.”

Damian Richardson, manager Cork City: “Everyone will be looking for a performance full of pride and passion on Wednesday to try and restore what was lost against Cyprus which was completely unacceptable and lacking in organisation. Anything is possible, especially at such a difficult venue as Lansdowne Road and if we have a performance full of pride in the Irish jersey, then maybe we can redeem something. But, if we get a repeat of Saturday’s performance we will have to look to him to take responsibility.”

Stephen Kenny, manager Derry City: “As a manager myself I don’t think it is appropriate for me to comment on the situation facing Steve Staunton right now. I don’t think it would be fair and I wouldn’t be comfortable doing so.”

Paul Doolin, manager Drogheda United: “I feel for Steve Staunton and his players right now. It is going to be very difficult for them on Wednesday. They are a young team and they need results. The Czechs might have great players like Nedved and so on, but they always seem to have new talent coming along. It is going to be very tricky, but I’d expect to see plenty of passion. Being a manager is a very lonely position and Stan is finding that out right now. But I’d have to say it is very early for him and his team and he deserves a chance.”
