Carrick sets new target

MICHAEL CARRICK set his sights on a regular place in the England team after enjoying a successful full league debut for Manchester United.

The 25-year-old midfielder recovered from a knee injury to make his first Premiership start for United on Saturday as Alex Ferguson’s side strengthened their grip at the top of the table with a 2-1 win at Watford.

The victory — achieved thanks to goals from Mikael Silvestre and Ryan Giggs — maintained the Red Devils’ 100% start to the campaign, but Carrick already has his eye on a starting berth for England’s opening Euro 2008 qualifier against Andorra at Old Trafford on Saturday.
