Chimbonda set for Wigan showdown

PASCAL CHIMBONDA is set for showdown talks with Wigan manager Paul Jewell next week as he remains desperate to quit the JJB Stadium.

Chimbonda is due to return to pre-season training on Monday after spending the last few weeks on holiday following his stint on World Cup duty with France.

Since handing in a transfer request minutes after the final game of last season at Arsenal, and having a £6m price tag slapped on his head, Spurs and West Ham have both shown interest. However, both clubs fell short of the fee being demanded by Wigan, with Tottenham bidding £3m and the Hammers £4m.
