Quinn tipped for Black Cats’ hotseat
Former Black Cats striker Quinn is chairman of Drumaville, who have tabled a £10 million (€14 million) takeover of the club but have been given permission to start work before the end of the conditional offer period. With Quinn set to take over from outgoing chairman Bob Murray as Sunderland’s chairman, his first task has been to recruit a new manager following the departure of Mick McCarthy last season when the club were relegated from the Premiership.
David O’Leary was linked with the post after he parted ways with Aston Villa last week, while Bolton boss Sam Allardyce was strongly linked with a return to the club he once played for.
However, with the Championship season less than two weeks away and the club appearing no nearer to hiring a manager, Quinn could take the reins at least in on a temporary basis.
The club are currently in Ireland for tonight’s game against Shelbourne at Tolka Park, with an announcement on the vacancy possibly to be made on Wednesday. An announcement could come via the stock exchange through Drumaville.
