Redknapp scoops manager prize

PORTSMOUTH manager Harry Redknapp has won the latest Barclays Manager of the Month award.

A haul of 14 points during April saw the south coast side secure their Premiership status for another season — and earned Redknapp the award for a fifth time.

Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was named April’s Player of the Month, with the Reds’ Spanish goalkeeper Jose Reina claiming the Barclays Golden Gloves Award for the 2005-06 season.

The Anfield club recorded four victories last month, including a 3-1 success against Aston Villa which 25-year-old Gerrard scored twice in.

Reina kept 20 clean sheets, more than Manchester United’s Edwin Van der Sar (18) and last year’s winner Petr Cech of Chelsea (17).
