Kiely’s praise for chirpy Morrison

DEAN KIELY is well aware of the danger his Republic of Ireland colleague Clinton Morrison can pose — but the only place he expects problems is on the pitch when Charlton visit Birmingham City today.

Morrison hit the headlines for the wrong reasons last week following his post-match row with Fulham’s Rufus Brevett.

But he and Kiely went to the World Cup finals together with Mick McCarthy’s Irish squad and Kiely said: “He’s very amiable, very friendly, a nice person to be around, very bubbly.

“It takes all sorts in a squad of players and it’s good to have someone like that who is laughing and joking, always got a smile on his face and plenty to say.

“I think he fits the squad very well. Clinton is very loud and chirpy and very confident and rightly so.

“I’m all for people wearing their hearts on their sleeves as long as it doesn’t boil over but there’s so much at stake it sometimes evokes reactions.

“He is a very good player and in his first year in the Premiership he’s trying to prove people right or wrong.

“Probably what is against him at the moment is that it’s his first year but in three, four or five years, he will be playing in this league and scoring goals. He’s a very good striker, someone we will have to nullify.”
