Lokomotiv edge out Dynamo in five-goal thriller
The away side started brightly, playing the ball around well on the uneven surface and tested Lokomotiv with a few shots from outside the area that failed to hit the target.
Lokomotiv countered with a shot from Dmitri Loskov, which was blazed well over after good work from Dmitry Sennikov.
The Ukrainian side began to turn the screw and had the first clear chance on goal when Maksim Shatskikh found space in the Lokomotiv area, but shot straight at keeper Sergei Ovchinikov.
The Uzbekistan striker had an even better chance three minutes later when Tiberiu Ghioaneâs initial effort was saved by Ovchinikov, but Shatskikhâs rebound was well blocked by Oleg Pashinin.
However, it was Lokomotiv who took the lead on 27 minutes, when Dmitri Khoklovâs pass eluded Yuri Dmitrulin and found Maksim Buznikin, who drilled past Olexander Shovkovsky.
Kievâs Valiantsin Belkevich netted a superb equaliser on 36 minutes when he lashed a Denis Onishenko knock-down past Ovchinikov.
On the stroke of full time, Spanish referee Dauden Ibanez awarded a controversial penalty after Buznikin was brought down by Yuri Dmitrulin.
Sergei Ignashevitch duly fired past Shovkovsky to give Lokomotiv the advantage just before the break.
Again Kiev rallied, and Shatskikh found an equaliser on 64 minutes as he ghosted past Ignashevich in the area and turned home a low Dmitrulin cross. Ovchinikov then pulled off the save of the night 10 minutes from time when he leapt across to tip a Shatskikh effort around the post.
But there was further drama to come as Lokomotiv grabbed a dramatic winner on 88 minutes when Costa Rican substitute Winston Parks collided with Shovkovsky and poked home the ball as it ran free.
The Ukrainian side remonstrated with the Spanish referee, but he felt that there was no foul on the keeper, and the goal was given.
