United locked in talks in final effort to settle Ronaldinho issue
United were keen to have the issue settled one way or the other by the end of the day but negotiations were continuing last night.
If their efforts fail then they will accept defeat and turn their attention elsewhere perhaps towards Damien Duff if the Blackburn winger decides against a move to Chelsea.
The London club may have agreed a £17million fee with Blackburn but Rovers boss Graeme Souness believes there is no certainty that Duff will move to Chelsea.
Duff's first choice is understood to be United and given the opportunity would prefer Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge.
Ronaldinho remains Alex Ferguson's first choice and although Barcelona have bid £21million, more than United's offer, it is thought the Brazilian would prefer to go to Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Kleberson, who plays alongside Ronaldinho in midfield for Brazil, underwent a medical in Manchester yesterday and United will seek a work permit for the player before announcing the final signing.
