Spurs relief as Ajax go for Blind
Blind had an illustrious playing career with Ajax, captaining them in their Champions League victory in 1995.
Tottenham’s Martin Jol had been touted as the favourite to fill the vacancy at the Amsterdam Arena but the club decided to appoint from within and Heitinga is delighted.
He said: “He has had a beautiful past at Ajax. He knows exactly how things work at this club.
“I worked very well with him in the youth set-up. I think it is a good appointment.”
Wesley Sneijder echoed his skipper’s positive reaction although he admitted that there would now be changes.
“Some things will change, I guess,” he said.
“He (Blind) had a big name as a player and I think it will be fun to work with him again.”
