Carroll may remain at Old Trafford

ROY CARROLL is willing to sign a new contract with Manchester United, providing Alex Ferguson does not bring in even more competition during the summer.

After seizing the number-one slot from Tim Howard in September, Carroll was axed by Ferguson following his costly Champions League blunder against AC Milan two months ago.

The Northern Ireland goalkeeper is resigned to spending the remainder of the campaign on the bench, and Red Devils chief executive David Gill recently revealed his belief Carroll would be leaving when his current deal expires in the summer.

Apparently, that observation is not accurate and the former Wigan stopper has yet to make a definitive decision on his future.

His main concern surrounds the competition he will face and whether Ferguson intends to continue his search for yet another potential successor to Peter Schmeichel.
