Sven support for Cole

ASHLEY COLE’S latest injury setback will not hamper his World Cup chances, according to England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The Arsenal defender hurt his ankle during Monday night’s reserve game against Tottenham.

Cole, 25, has not featured for the first team since being sidelined in mid-January when he injured his thigh against Middlesbrough, after more than three months out with a broken foot.

Scans are expected to confirm no serious problems, and a sprain rather than ligament damage.

Despite such a stop-start campaign, Eriksson is convinced Cole will show few ill effects by the time the England squad leaves for Germany.

“He is a quick one to get in form, with the body he has,” Eriksson declared.
