Blues back amongst the goals
Gudjohnsen and Hasselbaink are no longer the regular first-choice pairing up front for Claudio Ranieri and they started in tandem for only the fifth match this season and the first time since November 22 in Sunday's clash at Leicester.
But on the evidence of the Walkers Stadium display the duo can remain a major force with Hasselbaink scoring twice in a 4-0 romp and Gudjohnsen linking up effectively with the Dutchman.
It is the goals department in which Chelsea have been struggling in recent weeks despite their apparent abundance of riches and Adrian Mutu's goal as a substitute against the Foxes was his first in 13 club games.
Gudjohnsen said: "It was nice for me and Jimmy to play together again and there were signs against Leicester that we can still really play well off each other.
"Everybody knows that we are comfortable playing together. We really enjoy it. We work off each other very well and we played some lovely one-twos on Sunday.
"We showed what we are about and I was glad for Jimmy that he got his two goals.
"I'm very pleased for him because he hadn't played the last few games.
"But I think everyone is wanting to play and that's the positive thing about the club at the moment. Everyone is raring to go, is on their toes and, when called upon, we all want to be ready to take the chance."
Midfielder Frank Lampard said: "We need strikers that are scoring goals. Jimmy has been out of the side a little bit. He is very important because he is a great goalscorer.
"He has proved that over the last six or seven years.
"It was good for Adrian Mutu to score as well. It's been a long time and we all know he's been frustrated. To come on and score will be great for his confidence.
"We need all our strikers scoring goals because it has been a bit quiet for us lately on that front.
"To see Jimmy come back confident, to see Adrian score, to see Eidur playing well again, is great for us and if they can stay in the goals that will really push us up there at the top.
"Strikers don't like being left out of the side. It is more important to them probably because they need to find the rhythm, they need to score goals to get onto a good run."
Lampard is confident that Chelsea can force themselves back to the forefront of the title battle and he claimed: "We had the swagger back on Sunday that we had a month or two ago.
"A lot of people have been giving us stick over the last couple of weeks and the manager and the players were determined to put in a performance at Leicester. It was a test of character and we showed from the first minute what we are about.
"I think we can catch Manchester United and Arsenal. We have to believe we can and we do. We're only five points off the top and four off Arsenal. That is nothing. It is important we go on a good run and stay right on their tails."
