We can still win it all, says Silvestre
Manchester United are not only involved in the title race but in the group stages of the Champions League as well as the FA Cup and Worthington Cup. After last season when they finished without a trophy, Sir Alex Ferguson's side are again proving difficult to beat.
United kept up the pressure on Arsenal by defeating West Brom at the weekend and Silvestre says there is a mood of optimism around the place.
"To succeed in all four competitions would be a big achievement, but we hope to win everything," he told MUTV. "I have played in a lot of games this season and it is good to be in contention for all four
trophies."
United come face to face with Chelsea on Saturday at Old Trafford after knocking them out of the Worthington Cup.
Silvestre believes they cannot afford to slip up in the remaining months of the League campaign.
"We are now in the middle of the season and perhaps we need to win the rest of our games," he said.
"I don't think Arsenal will lose that many now, so we need to stay close to them.
"We are confident of beating Chelsea after knocking them out of the Worthington Cup."
Silvestre also admitted he preferred to play in central defence rather than left-back.
But he added: "Being versatile is good especially when you are young. But when you are older perhaps you should stay in one position."
Meanwhile, Nicky Butt was scheduled to make his comeback for
Manchester United's reserves last night just four days after returning to full training. The England midfielder has been restricted to just 10 appearances for United this season after suffering an ankle injury on international duty against Slovakia in October.
His recovery has taken far longer than both he and manager Alex
Ferguson expected.
United were so anxious for the game to go ahead they had the fixture switched to Hillsborough from Altrincham's Moss Lane ground, where they stage most of their reserve-team matches.
