SFA set to rule on Hoops’ Thompson appeal

CELTIC have appealed to the Scottish FA against the red card shown to Alan Thompson during the 2-0 defeat by Rangers.

The appeal arrived at SFA headquarters yesterday and the Hoops will soon know whether the England international will be able to play in the Premier League match at Dundee on Sunday.

Thompson was shown a straight red card by referee Kenny Clark following an incident with Rangers’ winger Peter Lovenkrands.

Meanwhile, police are investigating claims Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon made comments to fans and spat on a Rangers scarf which was thrown on to the side of the pitch during the Old Firm match last Saturday.

A police spokeswoman said: “A number of incidents involving Neil Lennon have been brought to police attention. We are currently looking into this. However, there is nothing to suggest there will be any action taken at this stage.”

Rangers star Novo has also complained to police after vandals sprayed ‘Novo RIP’ on a fence outside his flat after the victory.
