Boardroom may cost us Rooney, says Moyes

EVERTON boss David Moyes fears the current boardroom power struggle at Goodison Park is damaging the club’s bid to hold on to England striker Wayne Rooney.

Chairman Bill Kenwright and fellow director Paul Gregg have waged a bitter battle for control of the Toffees in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Rooney has yet to decide whether to pledge his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract worth £50,000 a week to the 18-year-old striker.

Rooney, still nursing an injury picked up at Euro 2004, watched from the bench as Everton beat Sheffield Wednesday, 6-3, in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.

Moyes has slammed his squad size as “ridiculous” but remains optimistic that some money will eventually be made available for new recruits.
