Ferguson excited by prospect of Rooney’s debut

MANCHESTER UNITED stars begged Alex Ferguson to play Wayne Rooney against Tottenham on Saturday but their pleas fell on deaf ears.

The United manager decided to keep Rooney’s comeback on hold until tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Fenerbahce at Old Trafford, but it was a difficult decision.

“All the players wanted him to play at Tottenham, but although we have got a clearance from the medical side, he is still only 18 years old and we wanted to give him a really good bit of training in order that he does not break down,” he said.
