‘Big Jack’ flies in for crucial match
The primary reason for Charlton’s visit - to Crumlin’s Submarine Bar - will be to attend tomorrow’s launch of “Confessions from the Blackthorn” - a book brought out by Tyrellspass-born man Frank Gillespie.
Also in attendance will be great Irish stars of the past like Ray Houghton, Andy Townsend, John Aldridge and Kevin Moran.
Gillespie, who co-owns the Blackthorn Bar in Boston’s Irish area, struck up a relationship with ‘Big Jack’ when the former England defender made the breakthrough to the European Championship and World Cup finals starting way back with that 1-0 win over England in Stuttgart in 1988.
“I decided to put it all out in writing - great days, great times. Jack remains a great friend.”
