SUNDERLAND manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed his interest in Torpedo Moscow striker Andres Oper. The Estonia international is set to link up with the club for a trial later this week.

McCarthy became aware of the 27-year-old while he was manager of the Republic of Ireland and he has sought a second opinion from Black Cats’ goalkeeping coach Tim Carter, who also helps out with the Estonia national team.

“I know Anders from the Estonian national team through Tim Carter. Yes, I have made an enquiry about him,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy yesterday took the number of summer signings to eight with Liverpool’s Anthony Le Tallec joining on loan and veteran defender Alan Stubbs signing a one-year deal after leaving Everton.

Another possible option to bring in up front is Jamaica striker Damani Ralph, currently playing for Russian side Rubin Kazan having moved from American club Chicago Fire in March.
