IT’S nothing new. Football’s top managers have been sniping at each other with varying degrees of vitriol since the first laced-up football was kicked.

“You might as well talk to my baby daughter. You’d get more sense out of her,” was Kenny Dalglish’s famous aside to a reporter interviewing Alex Ferguson after a bitter Liverpool v Man United fixture in 1988.

The verbals between Ferguson and Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger became so heated last season the FA warned both men to halt their feud because it was stoking animosity on the pitch. And for spite at its meanest, how about Brian Clough’s verdict on former partner Peter Taylor after the break-up of their partnership in 1983?
