The German side, coached by the hugely successful Giovanni Trapattoni, will be the opponents for Steve McClaren’s men as the competition reverts to a two-legged knockout format after the group stages.
Boro topped their group with a 2-0 home win over Litex Lovech on Thursday night. Bolton were handed a tough draw against French side Marseille as they completed their UEFA Cup group stage with a 1-1 draw at home to Sevilla, while Marseille topped a group containing Levski Sofia, Heerenveen, CSKA Moscow and Dinamo Bucharest.
