Gerrard not going to Chelsea, says Parry
Fresh reports alleged Parry had met Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon last week to agree a ÂŁ30m deal.
But Parry blasted: “I did not meet with Peter Kenyon, nor did I agree a deal for Steven Gerrard. Both Rafa Benitez and myself have made it clear to Steven that we want him to stay and we see his future at Anfield.”
Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp has predicted Tottenham will hijack Southampton’s bid for Republic of Ireland star Andy Reid, a claim strongly rejected by Notts Forest manager Gary Megson.
It appears highly likely the Irish play-maker Reid will be playing Premiership football next week. But Saints boss Redknapp considers it unlikely that Reid will agree on a move to St Mary’s, even though a cash-plus-players deal has been agreed upon between chairmen Rupert Lowe and Nigel Doughty.
“I wish that I had signed Andy Reid. We have made an offer but I think you’ll find that he will go somewhere else.” Redknapp described himself as “one million per cent” sure Reid would snub Saints. “If Spurs want him, I think he’ll go there.”
But Forest manager Megson was bemused by Redknapp’s prediction: “Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal whereby we’ll get some money and two players in return for Reid. Now it’s up to Andy himself and the other players involved (believed to be Darren Kenton and Brett Ormerod).”
*Forest have confirmed that Spurs have made an offer for centre-half Michael Dawson.
