German referee jailed for match-fixing

The 26-year-old received the custodial sentence for his role in a match-fixing scam, which is the biggest scandal to hit German football for 30 years.

Hoyzer and fellow referee Dominik Marks were found guilty of having fixed matches in return for large cash sums, received from Ante Sapina, the Croatian ringleader of a €2 million betting fraud.

Marks, for his lesser role in the scandal, was handed a suspended sentence of one year and six months.

Sapina also received a custodial sentence, when he was handed a two-year and 11 month jail term, whilst his brothers Filip and Milan were both given suspended sentences.
